Presenting Mozilla WebThings

The Mozilla IoT team is definitely excited to announce that after 2 yrs of development and seven quarterly software updates that have generated substantial interest from the developer & producer community, Project Things is away from its early experimental phase plus from now on will be known as Mozilla WebThings.

Mozilla’ s mission is to “ ensure the Internet is really a global public resource, open plus accessible to all. An Internet that really puts people first, where people can shape their own experience and so are empowered, safe and independent. ”

The Mozilla IoT team’ s mission would be to create a Internet of Things execution which embodies those values plus helps drive IoT standards meant for security, privacy and interoperability.

Mozilla WebThings is an open system for monitoring and controlling gadgets over the web, including:

• WebThings Entrance – a software submission for smart home gateways centered on privacy, security and interoperability
• WebThings Platform – a collection of recylable software components to help developers develop their own web things

We look forward to another in which Mozilla WebThings software is attached to commercial products that can provide customers with a trusted agent for their “ smart”, connected home.

The WebThings Gateway 0. almost eight release is available to download through today. If you have an existing Things Entrance it should have automatically updated alone. This latest release includes brand new features which allow you to privately record data from all your smart house devices, a new alarms capability plus a new network settings UI.

Logs

Perhaps you have wanted to know how many times the door has been opened and closed while you had been out? Are you curious about energy consumption of home appliances plugged into your smart plugs? Using the new logs features you can independently log data from all your sensible home devices and visualise that will data using interactive graphs.

In order to enable the new signing features go to the main menu ➡ Settings ➡ Experiments and allow the “ Logs” option.

You’ ll then view the Logs option in the main menu. Following that you can click the “ +” switch to choose a device property to record, including how long to retain the data.
